Life as we know it in the Navy

Wow, its been forever since I wrote in this thing. Seems like so much has happened, and my kids have grown so much. Luci was just a tiny little thing, and now she is walking and talking. Crazy.

Anyway, my hubby goes on leave today for two weeks. In normal people speak, that means he gets a two week vacation from working for the Navy. No 10-12 (or longer) hour days, no duty shifts (extra shifts he has to work for whatever reason), no oddly scheduled flights. Two straight weeks of vacation. I am looking forward to it. We have a ton of things planned, but none are etched in stone other than our Halloween party next Friday, for which I have driven myself to the usual limit of craziness trying to come up with awesome ideas for. LOL So I hope it is fun for whoever shows up. ;)

What is weighing on my mind, however, is that AFTER the 2 weeks of leave/vacation, my husband has less than a month before he deploys for 6 months to some wierd place that I cant pronounce. Actually the location keeps changing. Its not Iraq, that much I know. And it is our FIRST deployment, because it has taken him several years just to get all of his training done in this complicated, pain in the ass job he has chosen. Not that I should complain, but his hectic and demanding training schedule has taken its toll on the family, and now they are shipping him off for half a year- so we will see how this goes. It will be nice when this is done so we can have him home on a semi-normal schedule for a while. (Is there such a thing?) Sometimes I just want to kick the scheduler in the ass. Not sure they know what they are doing over there. Of course my husband just says, "That's life in the Navy, honey." I think that is their catch phrase.

On the plus side, we will be saving plenty of dough while he is off in the desert. Cant spend money over there when you are living in a tent. Haha! And I am pretty goal oriented myself so I think if I curb the shopping and eating out we will have plenty of cash accrued when he gets back. Of course, that means I have to start cooking. I usually hate cooking, especially if its just me and the girls, because they whine about the food looking funny and douse everything in ketchup, which is gross. But we are going to buy an investment home, fix it up and either flip it or rent it. We'll see how that goes, especially with today's market.

Anyway, since I posted last, we got out of our awful base housing and bought a nice house in a cute new little area with some nice amenities. The whole area here is pretty new so I like it here. It has all the shops and things I could ask for right within 5 mins, so that will be convenient when he is gone. We have built a fence for the dogs around the backyard and realized we are quite the handy dandies (just had to say that, its such a fun, dorky word! lol). Now we are working on a big playground for the kids with two towers and a bridge connecting them. Hope to get that finished this weekend. We'll see. My husband has a knack for making things take twice as long as they should. Or maybe that is all men?  Plus he drilled a hole in my thumb on accident during our last project of enlarging our closet shelves. That didn't feel so good, so I'm a little nervous, but we're doing good so far.  We got the towers up and haven't had any injuries. ***knocking on wood***

So that is the gist of it. Still going to school, taking my college courses at the university. Still keeping busy with my freelance writing, and the kids are ever growing. Kaley is doing a run/walk club, Gracee is in tap and ballet, and Luci is learning new ways to prove she's in the terrible two's every day. But I love it! Keeps me on my toes! I'll be back later when I have something more to talk about. <3
